Prolific child pornographer sentenced to 10 years


Canada’s most prolific child pornographer was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison but only faces 20 more months in jail.

Brian Way, 44, was convicted in May 2015, becoming Canada’s most infamous child pornographer with 57 offensive videos — which didn’t depict actual sex acts — sent world-wide.

In passing sentence on Way, Justice Julie Thorburn deducted seven years and 10 months from the 10 year sentence, giving him credit for the more than five years he has spent in jail since his May 2011 arrest. In addition, another six months was deducted for verbal and physical abuse he suffered from court officers at Metro West detention centre, said Thorburn.

But that sentence is simply too lenient for Way’s heinous crimes, said acting detective-sergeant Paul Krawczyk, of the Toronto Police force’s child exploitation unit, which spearheaded the investigation.  (more...)
