Woman accused in doorman stabbing to remain at mental hospital


An architect and lobbyist arrested in a dramatic takedown after the stabbing of a doorman at her posh Toronto condominium will remain at a mental hospital for another 30 days.

Justice Leslie Chapin approved the extension of Ellis Galea Kirkland’s stay at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health until April 19 to investigate whether she is fit to stand trial.

“It’s the right place for her to be — it’s an amazing hospital and has health-care professionals that are second to none,” her lawyer John Nunziata said outside of the Old City Hall courthouse.

“It’s difficult, very difficult for her and her family as you can imagine. It’s totally out of character and inexplicable for someone who is so accomplished to be going through this process.”   (more...)
