Cyril Smith sex abuse inquiry set to be halted by Rochdale council


An internal inquiry into historic child sex abuse claims involving disgraced MP Cyril Smith is set to be stopped by Rochdale council.

Town hall bosses commissioned Mr Justice Garnham to investigate a string of historic allegations that children were abused by Smith and others at Cambridge House Boys Hostel and Knowl View special school in Rochdale in April 2014.

But it was temporarily halted three months later at the request of Greater Manchester Police after a criminal investigation was launched.

Now the council probe is set to be scrapped altogether, because the Goddard Inquiry , a major nationwide inquiry into historic child sex abuse led by Justice Lowell Goddard, is also looking into the same allegations.  (more...)
