Liberals have created chaos in education

TORONTO - I can hear the phone call in my wildest imagination.

“Hello, boss, feeling a bit under the weather today. Don’t think I can make it into work today,”

There’s a pause.

“Sure, Chris. No problem. Take 11 days on full pay. When that’s finished, you can take another 120 days at 90%. Then just keep coming back for more.”

As I said, in my wildest dreams.

It doesn’t happen like that in the private sector, where insurance companies usually take over paying for short and long-term absences after the first 10 days or so of sick leave.

In the recently negotiated tentative agreement with Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) a never-ending sick leave entitlement has been referred to arbitration.
