Parents are fed up with teacher job actions


What part of "No" don't you understand, Sam Hammond?

No parent or taxpayer in Ontario wants the public elementary school teachers, whose union you head, to escalate their self-centred, futile job action as another school year begins.

No sympathy is going to be generated for these teachers, whose jobs are rock-solid secure, and whose pay is now so high that some researchers contend they're no longer in the middle class.

On Monday, Hammond, who is president of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario, threatened that if the Ontario government and school board negotiators don't come back to the bargaining table this week, "we will indeed escalate our work-to-rule strike action."
