Education Should Focus on the Fundamentals

Patrick Brown M.P.
Dear Friends,

As the first Member of Parliament to speak against the Liberal’s proposed Sex Education curriculum, I look forward to speaking at a Rally at Queen’s Park on Tuesday, February 24th at 11:00 a.m. and I encourage you to join me.

Instead of introducing Sex Education to Grade 1 classrooms this Fall, the Liberal government should heed the priorities of Ontario parents.  Parents want more emphasis on the basics: reading, writing and arithmetic, where Ontario students are falling behind children in other jurisdictions.

I have spoken to many parents on the campaign trail who rightfully believe only they should decide what is age appropriate for their child, and teachers who are uncomfortable with the proposed radical changes to the curriculum.

Like Ontario parents, I’d rather see our elementary schools focus on the fundamentals where they are currently under performing.  (more...)
