Peel board writes letter of concern about consultation on sex ed changes

BRAMPTON— Peel’s public school board has concerns about the way the provincial government has sought public input on changes to sex education curriculum.

Late last fall, the Liberal government revealed  plans to introduce “current, relevant and age-appropriate” health and physical education curriculum in classrooms next September.

The Growth and Development section of the elementary Health and Physical Education curriculum was last updated 1998.

A select number of parents were asked to offer input through an online survey.

The Peel District School Board and many parents in the region share concerns this consultation was too narrow in seeking parental comment. Board Chair Janet McDougald is sending Education Minister Liz Sandals a letter to express local misgivings about the process.  (more...)
