Brantford United Church minister faces sexual exploitation, other charges

A respected Brantford minister and community activist is facing charges of sexual exploitation, luring a child and possession of child pornography.

Brantford police arrested Rev. Barry Pridham at his home on Sunday morning. Officer executed two search warrants and seized various electronic devices at the residence and the minister's church office for forensic examination.

Pridham, 64, was remanded into custody after appearing before a justice of the peace on Sunday and is scheduled to make another court appearance on Tuesday morning for a bail hearing.

Police said they received information on Saturday that a local 17-year-old girl was receiving sexually explicit text messages from a close family friend. The family friend is the minister of the church the family attends.

Further investigation revealed that the teen was lured into sending naked pictures of herself via text and email to the friend. In addition she was asked to touch herself in a sexual manner, police said.

The communications were intercepted by the teen’s mother and police were contacted.  (more...)
