UK: Child abuse scandal that grows ever darker

Anthony Fuggle
For more than 20 years, Anthony Fuggle taught classics at the preparatory wing of St Paul’s School. It was a subject he brought vividly to life with regular ‘field trips’ abroad.

One of the most memorable was in 2011, when his pupils, aged seven to 13, visited the Acropolis in Athens, rode camels in the shadow of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt and walked in the footsteps of St Paul and St John in the ancient Greek city of Ephesus.

Mr Fuggle, 57, was on the board of ISAC (Independent Schools Adventure Cruises Ltd), a company that organises specialist holidays, not just for St Paul’s and its junior division, Colet Court — which share the same riverside campus in Barnes, South-West London — but for many other leading educational establishments, too.

‘He came across as a delightful man, very dedicated and highly intelligent,’ says someone who accompanied Mr Fuggle on a number of such foreign outings.

‘He did a very good job as a party leader, looking after the children entrusted to his care.’

Today, however, the much-respected, long-serving and dedicated Mr Fuggle is no longer on the staff.  (more...)
