Jailed TV presenter Stuart Hall to be stripped of OBE by the Queen after he was jailed for sex assaults on young girls

The 84-year-old saw his 15-month sentence
doubled after a widespread public outcry
Shamed TV presenter Stuart Hall is to be stripped of his OBE admitting a series of indecent assaults against girls as young as nine.

The former It's A Knockout host was jailed for 15 months in June but, after widespread public outrage over the 'unduly lenient' prison term, his sentence was doubled at the Court of Appeal.

He was awarded the OBE just last year for his services to television and charity but the official announcement that the Queen has revoked the honour was published in the London Gazette this afternoon.

A notice today in the London Gazette read: ‘The Queen has directed that the appointment of James Stuart Hall to be an Officer of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated 31 December 2011, shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order.’

Hall was described as an 'opportunist predator' by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The 84-year-old from Wilmslow, Cheshire, admitted 14 counts of indecent assault against girls aged between nine and 17 over a period of almost 20 years after initially denying the allegations.

Lancashire Police confirmed last month that they had received 'further allegations' about the veteran broadcaster.  (more...)
