Former minister to learn fate in November

BRANTFORD, Ont. – A verdict will be rendered Nov. 19 on a former Anglican minister accused of sex offences against a teenage boy dating back some 25 years.

George Ferris, 66, of Cambridge, Ont., pleaded not guilty on Monday to two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual exploitation spanning a time frame of 1983 to 1989.

The defence called no evidence on Tuesday.

On Monday, a 42-year-old witness told of being molested by Ferris over a number of years in a situation that progressed from lingering embraces to fondling, oral sex and two incidents of actual and attempted anal intercourse. He said he was warned as a teenager to keep the sexual activity secret or he and Ferris would find themselves in trouble.

Court also heard that the witness called Ferris in 2006 and asked for hush-money. Ferris paid the man $5,000, court heard.  (more...)
